missing valves and springs in VB?

93 auto 212k on the ticker. trans went out last month. rebuilt it and tore into the valve body, there were missing valves and springs not a good thing right? before the trans went out it shifted fine all the way through. now i have to let off from first to second if i manually shift or first to 3rd if i put it in drive? the shift kit was from transtar. i know my linkage is out of adjustment, but was fine before the rebuild had a detent for all gears. to me it sounds like a pressure issue IE valve body. if i manually shift(1-2) and then put it in drive with my foot out of it it goes into third like it should with a shift kit. on the other hand if im on it i have to let out all the way. there could be a possibility it could be the front band, but it doesnt seem to slip when in manual second. also clutches are borge warner.

any help would be great. i would love to daily the truck again
