Edge comp not working correctly

I have an Edge Comp that doesn't work correctly, going to send in to be fixed. Do I have to disconnect the harness from the engine while Edge is out of truck? Seems to run bad when I unplug the edge.

btw, the five level leds come on but the buttons do not respond/work. I have more power, but I have no idea what setting it is really on.
