Has anyone replaced the grid heater solenoids on there truck?
Last year I had one go bad and burn contacts together melting down not only the sol. but the main power lead from the batt and to the heater. I replaced it with a $10 snow plow solenoid that was the same exact demensions and terminals rather then spend the money on the set from the stealership for outrageous money.
That relay seemed fine but about 4 months later the other relay was not working so I bought another plow sol. They worked fine until about 2 days ago.
I went to testing why my grid heaters were not working and the main terminal pulled out of the first relay. Guess thats my problem.
Now I was under the impression as long as the sol was rated for the amperage a sol is a sol. But I should not be having all these problems should I. I talked to my father (a electrical engineer) and he said there is a continous duty and an intermitten duty sol. My thoughts are this is an intermitten system.
Does anyone have any ideas on what sol to replace these with I use ford starter solenoids on everything for $10 a piece from tractors to lawn mowers trucks and my dump box with no problems but I dont want to replace these with them just to find out they wont last either. These sol.s are not in an easy spot to get to when its 10 degrees and snowing. Until the weather breaks I just use jumper cables on the heater when I cant plug the old girl in
Thanks for your time
