Transfer case coming loose

Hey, I'm realitively new to diesels and this is my first post. I couldn't find anything or anyone with the problem I'm having.
I'll apologize now for the long post...

The other day I was replacing the previous owners worn out 5" TBE with a new stainless one. While I was under the truck I noticed a few drops of transmission fluid sitting on the bottom of the pan. As I started to investigate that, I realized the transfer case had a thick oil or grease leaking from it. Not a lot but some. I found all but one or two of the bolts from the back of the transmission to the transfercase were either missing or backed all the way out. The only ones remaining and in place were on the top. By pushing on the bottom of the transfer case it would shift up and down about an 1"-2".

Symptoms before I notice the fluids and transfer case:
A couple weeks ago we got some snow and I noticed when in 4HI doing maybe 5-10mph I could hear some clanking (not super load, but noticeable) like when a roller coaster is pulling an incline for a descend. Shifting into 4hi and 4lo seems more difficult than usual as well. In addition to that, when under medium acceleration from a stop or near stop in 2WD you can feel a slight shimmy, vibration, almost like riding on a rumble strip but not as bad. Which only seemed to happen once everything got warmed up but is now more frequent and more noticeable.

I rarely drive the truck like maybe once or twice a week on weekends. I'd like to drive it more.
What caused this? u-joints maybe? whoever installed the transmission didn't put everything back together properly? Will getting new bolts in the transfer case solve this problem? Or am I looking at a more serious problem or anything else I need to be concerned with? I just don't see this happening by itself.

Again... Sorry about the book and thank you for any advice/info in advance.

It's a 2005 QCSB 2500 4X4 5.9, ATS Auto transmission, 6" suspension, 35x12.50 on 20x12's, Stainless MBRP TBE, 4.56's w/ Mag-Hytec diff covers, Banks Six Gun and a few other things.
