I just had Thoroughbred Diesel (TBD) install a Southbend Clutch 3250 and an Air Dog II 165 into my rig. I also ordered and installed a S & B 76-1004 air horn and I couldn't be happier with the results! It is like a whole new truck!
The 3250 took a little to get used to. It is louder and a little more finicky than the factory clutch that it replaced. For the most part, it isn't any kind of problem. The only time I ever really experience problems is when I'm trying to back up to something. It has a habit of being all or nothing so feathering the clutch out to ease back can be difficult. It is a little tougher to shift into the various gears as well.
I have read numerous threads on this forum trying to decide whether I should run with Air Dog, FASS, or some other company. After talking to TBD, I decided to run the Air Dog II 165. It is definitely noiser than factory but I only hear it when I'm waiting for the wait light to turn off. Once I fire her up, I can't hear it at all. I could tell the difference right away between stock and having it. When I merged onto the freeway, I decided to punch it... no more lag and defueling problems! It really woke up the Cummings!
I can't tell you much about the S&B airhorn... I haven't noticed much of a change and I probably won't. I love the fact that it has 8 different ports that I can connect future modifications to. The directions for installation couldn't be any clearer. It was very easy to do! I think it took me maybe 30-45 minutes total. I did leave my heater grid in because of where I live. My only gripe with it is that it is missing the bolt for me to attach my oil dipstick to the top of the horn. I still need to contact the company to find out what the size and threads of the bolt are so I can just go get one. I tried to go through my misc. collection but none seemed to fit just right.
The people at TBD were great! They are very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. They are like a tight-knit family that loves to prank each other. They let me stay in their break room while they were working on my truck. They even offered to let me use one of their trucks so I could get something to eat or whatever else I might need to do. I am still in school to be a PA in the Army, so I just took the opportunity to catch up on my studies. I would not hesitate to take my truck back in the future to get any work done on it... and with it being the only real diesel performance shop in my area (I am stationed at Fort Knox, KY) that I have been able to find so far, I am happy with that. I especially want to thank Wade who gave me his personal cell phone number in case I had any problems or questions with my truck.
