hot shot cdl????

i have read the rules until i am blue in the face, and still dont know if i need a cdl.
2500 with a 14000 trailer.

every thing i read says only if trailer and truck gvwr is over 26000 lbs do i need a cdl,,, then i read somewhere that is the trailer is over 10000 you need a class a,,, so confused,,, plz help

wanting to do some hauls from time to time to help fill in the gap of construction work,,, not looking to do full time, or only source of income
