I was reading on the EFI Live forum and found this Killer Bee Performance, Timing the Diesel. Looked pretty interesting to me. He specializes in Dmax's but, its still a diesel motor and the concepts are still the same. I thought it was nice to finally have an explanation as to what is actually going on in my motor, albeit I'll have to read it a few more times before I begin to understand it all.
One of the interesting parts to me was the benefit of using a Cetane booster. (page 14 if you don't want to read it all) Lower cylinder pressures, increased torque, quiter, and more consistent ignition delay (which matters most when your trying to adjust timing for peak performance, who doesn't want that?). I had always thought my engine ran quieter when I added Cetane, but I just assumed it was me trying to hear a difference.
