Oil spray and smoke.

Just bought my truck a week ago today. Drove it for 5.5 days without issue and loved every minute of it. Last night, after returning from a short trip (I very rarely get on it or drive anything hard) I parked in my driveway and when I opened my door, I smelled burning oil and white smoke was billowing from my undercarriage.

I'm no mechanic, but I knew something undesirable had happened in the last minutes of the trip. I looked underneath and there was oil on the exhaust, transmission, frame, transfer case, you name it in that area and it had oil on it.

Still well within my warranty from the dealership so I had it towed and dropped off with them. The service dept. was closed when I got there so they had to look at it this morning. I don't get a call so at 2:00 PM I call them, and here's the part that has me flummoxed, and angry.

The guy says "Yeah, your truck has been done for a while, sorry, got swamped. The mechanic said that there was some residual oil left on the transfer case from when he replaced the seal a week before you bought it, but he wiped it off and drove it and it's good to go."

I replied very sharply with my dissent, explaining to him that what happened was not residual oil burning off, but a veritable explosion of oil from SOMETHING. He says that he trusts the mechanic and all it needed was a wipe down. MOTHER F'ING PISSED RIGHT NOW!

Anybody have a similar issue, or not, but would know what REALLY happened, or have a better clue?
